A marquee cast of legendary musicians including The Cure, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Billy Joel, Ian McCulloch,Barry Gibb, Roger Daltrey, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), and more assembled to cover selections from Paul McCartney’s discography for a massive new tribute album. In anticipation of its November 18th release, The Art of McCartney is streaming in full below (via The Guardian).
The project was originally conceived by producer Ralph Sall in 2003. McCartney not only gave the album his blessing, but provided his backing band to accompany the vast array of guest vocalists in the studio.
The album was preceded by covers of “Hello Goodbye”, which featured The Cure taking on the Beatles’ classic with McCartney’s son, James, along with Billy Joel’s rendition of “Maybe I’m Amazed”.
The Art of McCartney will be available in an array of formats, including digital, CD, and vinyl, as well as a deluxe box set featuring an exclusive documentary, a USB drive in the shape of McCartney’s Hofner bass, and a certificate of authenticity. The full package tacks on eight bonus tracks, including Robert Smith’s version of “C Moon” and “Smile Away” by Alice Cooper.
