The Black Crowes Hint At Possible Retirement

For fans of the brothers Robinson and their beloved band, The Black Crowes, recent years have been slim in regards to music released and touring endeavors. With their last new album coming in 2010, Croweology, and two multi-year hiatuses since 2002, the band’s most recent activity included a 2013 live album and tour, but not much else.

And that might continue indefinitely. After ending their 2013 tour on good terms, drummer Steve Gorman recently told  the band might be done for good.

“I’ve said in the past, ‘I know we’ll work again’ or, ‘there’s no way we’ll work again,’ and I’ve been wrong,” Gorman said. “But right now, the likelihood of us doing anything again is as low as it’s ever been. We could obviously all see things differently in a year, but I’ll be surprised if the Black Crowes do something again. Ever.”

Not that the band members aren’t hard at work. The Chris Robinson Brotherhood offered up the April album Phosphorescent Harvest and have been touring, while Rich Robinson unleashed his third solo project, The Ceaseless Light, in May. Gorman is hard at work in Trigger Hippy, which also includes Joan Osborne, and they have a self-titled debut out.

This makes everyone pretty busy for, say, a 25th anniversary reunion celebration for their debut smash, Shake Your Moneymaker.

“I’m solely consumed with Trigger Hippy,” Gorman said. “I’m not at all interested in getting in a room and trying to figure out Black Crowes music. That doesn’t do anything for me. I’m just so thrilled that [Trigger Hippy] is where it is. And I can’t speak for Rich or Chris, but I’m fairly confident that’s how they are with their things. We’ve done right by what the Black Crowes were and I think everybody is very happy to be looking forward to different things.”
