Lamb Of God drummer denies involvement with new Slipknot single

Chris Adler sparked speculation after suggesting that the drums on The Negative One sounded like him, but has since denied involvement with the group

Slip-not: Lamb of God’s Chris Adler says it’s not him drumming on The Negative One

Lamb Of God’s drummer has denied rumours that he played drums on Slipknot’s new single, The Negative One. Following an interview with ABC News Radio  (via Blabbermouth ), Chris Adler sparked speculation after suggesting that the drums on the new track “sounded a little bit like me,” but that “at the moment, I just don’t recall doing it.”

Slipknot have not yet revealed who has replaced Joey Jordison, who left the band last December, but Adler was quick to quash any discussion of this rumoured  collaboration. “I’ve received even more questions about my involvement with Slipknot since the ABC interview I did recently,” wrote Chris Adler on Facebook . “The interview was originally about my new whiskey bar, but of course took a turn into the gossip of the day. As I told her, I’ve had and have nothing to do with it. I’m flattered with the association and comparisons, but I have no involvement in their record.”

Slipknot’s fans have been speculating wildly about the band’s new rhythm section, goaded by Corey Taylor’s deliberate mystery. “We’re keeping a lot of [details] under wraps, out of fairness, because we want the music to speak for itself,” the singer told Pulse of Radio. In addition to Jordison’s replacement, Slipknot have remained quiet about their new bassist; co-founder Paul Gray died in 2010, and the core septet have not confirmed whether they are still working with touring bassist Donnie Steele.

Adler admitted that he has been receiving “texts and emails and phone calls” asking whether he has joined Slipknot. But “silence is golden,” he said. “Right now I don’t think those guys need me, or need me talking about it.” There has also been speculation that Slipknot are working with drummer Jay Weinberg, son of E Street Band sticksman Max Weinberg, and past collaborators like Mike Portnoy or Roy Mayorga.

The truth will probably be revealed in the next two months. Slipknot plan to release their fifth album in October, and another new song, The Devil In I, is due out “in a few weeks” . Taylor has compared the new LP to a cross between Iowa, from 2001, and their 2004 full-length Vol 3 (The Subliminal Verses). Both of those records, as well as 2008’s All Hope Is Gone, reached the album chart’s top five in the US and UK.

Jordison, who played with Slipknot for 18 years, is also saying nothing about the sweepstakes to replace him. Although the group claimed they had simply “parted ways”, Jordison stated later  that he “did not quit Slipknot”. “I would never abandon [this band], or my fans,” he wrote on Facebook . “This news has shocked and blindsided me as much as it has all of you.” Neither he nor his former bandmates have given any more details about their split.
