Beatles-Signed Piece of Ed Sullivan Show Stage to Go on Sale at L.A. Fab Four Convention

The Fest for Beatles Fans, perhaps the best known fan convention celebrating the Fab Four, will return to Los Angeles for the first time since 2000 next month.  The extravaganza, which will be held on October 11, 12 and 13 at the LAX Airport Marriott Hotel, will mark the 50th anniversary of The Beatles arrival in the U.S.

In conjunction with the milestone, a historic piece of memorabilia -- a piece of stage backdrop signed by the band's members during their debut visit to The Ed Sullivan Showin New York City in February 1964 -- will be on display and available for purchase at the L.A. Beatles Fest.  The item, which will cost the buyer a whopping $550,000, is one of the collectibles that will be shown at the convention by "featured exhibitor" Wayne Johnson, who owns Rockaway Records -- a well-known L.A. destination for Fab Four collectors.

All four Beatles autographed and doodled on the backdrop just before hitting the Sullivan Show stage.  The piece of wall also includes the signature of a member of fellow Liverpool band The Searchers and some other Sullivan guests.

Other rare Beatles artifacts that Johnson will be selling include the group's first U.S. contract with Vee Jay Records, for $100,000; a collection of 1964 Fab Four bobblehead dolls, for $17,500; and a sealed copy of the infamous "butcher" version of the 1966 albumYesterday and Today, for $4,500.  Many other memorabilia vendors also will be selling their wares at the festival.

The L.A. Fest for Beatles Fans also will feature a variety of guest performers and speakers, among them ex-Wings members Denny LaineLaurence Juber and Denny SeiwellBadfinger's Joey MollandPeter & Gordon singer and famed producer Peter Asher; longtime Ringo Starr music director Mark Rivera; British Invasion hitmaker Billy J. Kramer; and Freda Kelly, the one-time secretary of the Beatles fan club.
