CMT names its ‘Artists of the Year’ honorees

CMT will once again honor five artists the network has dubbed its “Artists of the Year” with a gala celebration set for December 2 in Nashville. The 90-minute show, which will air live on CMT, will honor Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban as the top country artists of 2014. The show will feature performances from some of those artists, as well as others paying tribute to them.

Keith is a first-time honoree. The others have all earned the designation from CMT in previous years. Jason has been among the honorees every year since the show’s inception in 2010.

“Over the past 12 months, all five honorees have illustrated their impact in country music through massive radio airplay, chart-topping album sales and millions of individual downloads of their current singles,” details a CMT press release. “Additionally, these acts have sold out concert tours and, collectively, their videos have received hundreds of millions of streams, earning them the honor of being named one of CMT’s Artists of the Year.”

Other past CMT Artists of the Year honorees include Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Hunter Hayes, Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band.
