Music, by definition, is made by musicians.How many working musicians can you name? For years I've told people that I believed they could make an unbelievable amount of money if they could learn to write song lyrics because of the sorry state of affairs in music today. What passes as lyrics would never have made the A side of records in my youth. A few days ago I saw an interview of a lyricist/ singer and he shed some light on the subject. According to him, song writers receive a very very small percentage of the money that's made from their work. Everyone seems to receive more than the lyricists. It's senseless that those who create music make so much less than those who perform it. It's clear that most performers are incapable of writing decent lyrics themselves. I suppose I'll stay mired in the past and listen to recordings from earlier eras rather than to subject myself to rap or any of the "music" of today. Computer-generated sounds are poor replacements for the greats such as Clark Terry.
