"Uptown Funk!" by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars jumps to #1 in its sixth week on Digital Songs, with sales of 288K. Mars has landed at least one #1 song on the digital sales chart every year since 2010. Mars and Katy Perry are the only artists who can make that claim.
"Uptown Funk!" is Mars’s seventh #1 on Digital Songs, which originated in October 2004. He’s one of only six artists to amass that many #1s. Rihanna leads the pack with 13 #1 digital hits, followed by Perry (10), Eminem and Taylor Swift (nine each), and Britney Spears (also with seven).
This marks the first time in five months that a male artist has topped the digital sales chart — as a lead or featured artist. The last time was in the week ending July 27, when Jason Aldean's “Burnin' It Down” debuted at #1.
On the Hot 100, the Ronson/Mars smash holds at #3 for the second week in its sixth week. (Note: This is Nielsen SoundScan’s week ending Dec. 21, which means there is still one week left in the Nielsen SoundScan chart year. This week corresponds with Billboard's week of Jan. 3, which makes it Billboard's first chart week of 2015.)
Taylor Swift's “Blank Space” tops the Hot 100 for the sixth straight week in its eighth week on the chart.
Hozier's “Take Me to Church” holds at #2 for the third straight week in its 19th week. It's #1 on Hot Rock Songs for the eighth week.
Ed Sheeran lands his first top five hit as “Thinking Out Loud” jumps from #6 to #4 in its 11th week.
Meghan Trainor is the only artist with two songs in this week’s top 10. “Lips Are Movin” dips from #4 to #5 in its ninth week. “All About that Bass” drops from #7 to #10 in its 24th week. (“All About That Bass” spent 15 weeks at either #1 or #2. Billboard's Gary Trust notes that it was the first time that an artist's first Hot 100 single spent 15 weeks in the top two.)
Sam Smith's “I'm Not the Only One” dips from #5 to #6 in its 16th week.
"Love Me Harder" by Ariana Grande & The Weeknd rebounds from #9 to #7 in 11th week. This matches its highest ranking to date.
Nick Jonas's “Jealous” rebounds from #11 to #8 in its 15th week. This is its highest ranking to date. This is its fourth week in the top 10, which is a new personal best for Jonas. Jonas Brothers's longest-running top 10 hit, “Burnin' Up,” spent three weeks in the top 10.
Maroon 5's “Animals” dips from #8 to #9 in its 18th week.
Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off” drops from #10 last week, ending a 17-week run in the top 10.
