David Bowie, Neil Young Plan Record Store Day Black Friday Offerings

Record Store Day will continue its Black Friday tradition this year with a smattering of limited releases from big groups and cult bands. Most notable among them are David Bowie's brand new song "Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)" – which is backed with another new tune "'Tis a Pity She's a Whore" – and the continuation of Neil Young's Official Release Series, which includes remastered vinyl reissues of his LPs On the BeachTime Fades AwayTonight's the Night and Zuma. All of the releases, a list of which is available at RecordStoreDay.com, will be available at select independent record stores, also listed on that site, on November 28th.

Other noteworthy releases include a cassette pressing of the soundtrack Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1(as it appeared in the movie), a mono repressing of the Beatles' Long Tall Sallyseven-inch, Faith No More's first single in more than 15 years ("Motherfucker"), Metallica's "Lords of Summer" 12-inch, which contains two versions of the song and a laser etching, and St. Vincent's Pieta 10-inch.

Additionally, Wu-Tang Clan are offering "C.R.E.A.M." on die-cut vinyl, Outkast have pressed "Player's Ball" on green vinyl, Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" will be available on a colored 12-inch, J. Mascis has made a "Fade Into You" seven-inch, Joe Satriani has revisited his debut, Joe Satriani EP, Afghan Whigs have souped up their Gentleman at 21 release to three LPs and the Kinks are reissuing their Muswell Hillbilies album. Green Day, Korn, and the Velvet Underground have also made vinyl reissues.

Two notable artists are offering records to benefit charitable causes. The Doors have contributed "Ghost Song" to a split 12-inch with Native American folk artist Peter LaFarge, whose "Drums" appears on the release. Artist Shepard Fairey contributed artwork to the release, which benefits Honor the Treaties, an organization whose goal is to help indigenous people amplify their voices through art and advocacy (the Doors' John Densmore is a board member.) A compilation of songs by Ronnie James Dio and covers of the heavy metal singer's hits – Dio and Friends' 'Stand Up and Shout' for Cancer– which culls from the This Is Your Lifecomp earlier this year, benefits the singer's cancer fund.

Composer Ramin Djawadi's Game of Thronestheme will get a 12-inch release, The Big Lebowskiand Little Miss Sunshine soundtracks will get their first vinyl release and South Parkis putting out a seven-inch featuring "James Cameron" backed with "My Bitch Ain't No Hobbit."

And because this Record Store Day event occurs on Black Friday – when everyone will be shopping for the upcoming holidays – a number of special Christmas releases are also slated to come out. The Flaming Lips' 2007 release Imagene Peise: Atlas Eets Christmaswill get a vinyl debut, the Phil Spector–produced classic A Christmas Gift for You(which features the Ronettes, Darlene Love and more) will be available on colored vinyl, Joey Ramone's 2002 holiday EPChristmas Spirit...in My Housewill be available on red 10-inch vinyl (also available will be a 12-inch of Morrissey's favorite Ramones songs), Run-DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" will be a 7-inch again, the 1987 comp Christmas Rap
