Pearl Jam, Phish, Jeff Tweedy Help Kick Off Voter Registration Day

September 23rd is National Voter Registration Day, and in an effort to draw hundreds of thousands of young voters before this coming Election Day, both the revitalized Rock the Vote and HeadCount have recruited dozens of musicians like Pearl Jam, Phish, Jeff Tweedy, Dave Matthews and more to help inspire millennials, first-time voters and young people of color to get registered and make their voices heard during the midterm elections.

At HeadCount's Facebook page, the group has gathered tons of artists ranging from "Weird Al" Yankovic and Gregg Allman to Snoop Dogg and Skrillex to hold a placard pointing fans to "Register to Vote Here." Each photo is accompanied by a link to a Rock the Vote-powered online Voter Registration form. HeadCount is a nonpartisan group co-created by the Disco Biscuits' Marc Brownstein that "stages voter registration drives at concerts and run programs that translate the power of music into real action." Since 2004, the group has helped register over 300,000 people.

To celebrate National Voter Registration Day, Rock the Vote will stage an event at North Carolina's Appalachian State University on September 23rd. The occasion will feature a voter registration drive, "creative activations fusing pop culture and politics," and a concert by the Brooklyn band Les Racquet. Rock the Vote is also encouraging people to spread the word about voter registration by using the #CelebrateNVRD hashtag.
