For their 40th anniversary, Rush are treating their fans to a massive box set that culls together live performances over the last four decades. That the collection, dubbed “R40″ (due November 11), will come as a six-disc Blu-Ray set or 10 DVD set and feature a 52-page hardback book that displays memorabilia and concert shots.
Longtime Rush fans might not be that excited, though. Most of the collection contains previously released concerts: 2003′s “Rush in Rio,” 2005′s “R30,” 2008′s “Snakes and Arrows Live,” 2011′s ‘Time Machine 2011: Time In Cleveland” and 2013′s “Clockwork Angels Tour.” Still, it’s likely diehards will pony up for “R40″ because of the bonus disc that contains a wealth of vintage Rush from the early days, including a complete eight-song set from 1974, captured at the Laura Secord Secondary School in Ontario, five songs from a 1976 concert at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, N.J. and a complete performance of their “2112″ suite.
Rush were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2013 – that night, when they jammed with Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins, will also be included in “R40.”
The band is gearing up for a tour in 2015. Their last album, 2012′s “Clockwork Angels,”debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in June 2012, selling 103,000 copies in its first week.
