Chris Brown and Ariana Grande Go Medieval in ‘Don’t Be Gone Too Long’ Clip

Chris Brown’s long-delayed album X is finally due out on September 16th, but he delivered an early treat for fans who can’t wait that long. On Friday night, the singer shared his fantasy-themed video for the X track “Don’t Be Gone Too Long,” featuring Ariana Grande.

Shot in a dark palette with dramatic Arthurian aesthetics, the video stars Brown and Grande as medieval lovers romancing in the moonlight. Royal heavies appear on horseback to separate the pair, and Brown is hauled away to prison while Grande is taken back to captivity on a castle balcony. Interspersed with the narrative are shots of Brown performing acrobatic dance moves alongside Grande’s tutu-clad ballerina poses.

Brown shared the video over Twitter, along with the note that he directed it. “Wanted to do something different,” he said. X will feature further collaborations with Lil Wayne, Tyga, Usher, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Kendrick Lamar.

The past few weeks have been eventful for Brown, who pleaded guilty on September 2nd to an October assault on a man outside a Washington, D.C. hotel. On Thursday night, the singer bounced back with an appearance on The Tonight Show, where he performed the title track from his new album along with the song “Loyal.”

Grande, meanwhile, was just announced as the musical guest for Saturday Night Live‘s 40th season opener on September 27th, with Chris Pratt as host.
